Karl Ludwig Friedrich von Reichenbach (February 12, 1788 - January 19, 1869) was a German industrialist and engineer who studied in the fields of metallurgy, chemistry (specifically distillates of coal and wood tar), and geology (for which efforts he was made, in 1839, a Freiherr [Baron] by King Wilhelm of Württemberg), as well as a naturalist researcher and philosopher, known today for his research into meteorites and for his reported discovery of what he called Od (odic) force.

Interestingly, Reichenbach was granted this degree on the basis of his extracurricular works, having not completed his studies at Tübingen, though he had briefly attended the school beginning in 1807. His matriculation was cut short by an arrest and imprisonment related to his involvement with a secret society, Otaheiti-Gesellschaft (Otaheiti Society), which had the objective of promoting the establishment of a German colony in Tahiti.
