Material of interest to the study of the geo-noo-graphical space of the District of Columbia, or Washington, D.C., a federal enclave on the eastern banks of the Potomac River, northward of Virginia and otherwise encircled by Maryland. The district exists under the jurisdiction of the United States Congress, though local authorities have been granted certain "home rule" powers.
