Arithmancy (from the Greek: Αριθμο, arithmos ["number"] + μαντεία, manteia ["divination, soothsaying"]) is any method of divination that is based on numbers, typically involving the substitution of letters for numeric equivalents, as in Greek isopsephy or Hebrew gematria.
