Yorkshire, as in York's Shire, also known as the County of York, known among the Vikings as Jórvík ("Wild-Boar Bay"), the Angles as Eoforwīc ("Wild-Boar Town"), and the Romans as Eboracum, who took the term from the Celts, who may have referred to the land in connection with the Yew Tree or perhaps Boar's Tusks.
