Sidney Petrie (October 28, 1923 - January 15, 1988) was a British-born American hypnotist, hypnotherapist, and diet advisor, the founder of the New York Institute of Hypnotherapy and creator of his namesake Petrie Method, a program using self-hypnosis to motivate the user toward weight loss or tobacco smoking cessation. Petrie co-authored several books with Robert B. Stone during the 1960s and 1970s, including Martinis and Whipped Cream: The New Carbo-Cal Way to Lose Weight and Stay Slim (1966).
