Project ARTICHOKE was a U.S. Central Intelligence Agency program, established in August 1951, for the purpose of the "study and/or use of 'special' interrogation methods and techniques," which were "known to include the use of drugs and chemicals, hypnosis, and 'total isolation,' a form of psychological harassment."[1] These operations continued to exist in parallel with Project MKULTRA until at least the late 1950s.
