Mesmerine was a patent medicine, manufactured and sold by H. F. Mumler (Mrs. W. H. Mumler), clairvoyant physician, which was sold as a remedy for diseases of the blood, liver, and spleen, as well as dyspepsia (indigestion). The medicine was described as clairvoyant as it was claimed that it was prepared by Dr. Benjamin Rush (1746-1813), who was supposed to act through Mumler.
