LeRoy Perry Smith (September 4, 1905 - April 4, 1974) was an American prospector who reported, along with Fred Beck and other members of their party, being attacked by crypto-hominids in July 1924 at a gorge on the southeast shoulder of Mount St. Helens (now called Ape Canyon after the incident), some eight miles from Spirit Lake. The events were first reported in the Oregonian in their July 13, 1924 edition (with the article referring to LeRoy Smith as Roy), and later detailed by Beck in his 1967 booklet, I Fought the Apemen of Mt. St. Helens.
