Subject | Origins of the Grail tradition in antiquity |
From Ritual to Romance is a study of Arthurian legend and the Holy Grail tradition as the continuation of Mithraic and ancient mystery cult beliefs, as opposed to having generally Christian and Celtic origins, that was written by medievalist Jessie L. Weston and first published in 1920 by Cambridge University Press. In her introduction, Weston describes her aim as being "to prove the essentially archaic character of all the elements composing the Grail story rather than to analyse the story as a connected whole," looking to the early Aryan and Babylonian mysteries and to Mithraism.
