The Samoan Islands, known formerly among Europeans as the Navigator Islands, is an archipelago in the South Pacific, historically being the homeland of the tagata Sāmoa, an indigenous Polynesian peoples. The islands are currently politically divided into the unincorporated territory of American Samoa, under U.S. jurisdiction, and the Independent State of Samoa (or, Western Samoa).
