New Brunswick, known in the French as Nouveau-Brunswick, so-named at its founding in 1784 for His Royal Majesty George III, King of Great Britain, King of Ireland, and prince-elector of Brunswick-Lüneburg, in certain former lands of Acadie (Acadia) in Nouvelle-France (New France), and of the Mi'kmaq, the Maliseet, and the Passamaquoddy.
