Named for Alexander Humboldt, and centered around the city of Eureka and the college town of Arcata, these being adjacent to Humboldt Bay, California's second largest natural bay, Humboldt County is a densely forested, mountainous, and highly rural county jurisdiction within the state of California, host to over forty percent of all remaining old growth Coast Redwood forests in the world, and running along 110 miles (177 km) of Pacific Ocean coast.
