Bear Man of Assam was the press name for a creature that was reported to have been terrorising residents of Assam, India during May of 2001. The creature reputedly made itself invisible and disappeared when a light was shone on it. The claims were dismissed by local authorities, who attributed the reports to superstition and suggested the stories may have been inspired by the earlier panic surrounding the Monkey Man of New Delhi.
