Royal Raymond Rife (May 16, 1888 - August 5, 1971) was an American inventor who developed specialised optical microscopes for high-magnification photography and micro-cinematography, including several that he asserted allowed him to view viruses, particularly what he called Bacillus X (BX) and Bacillus Y (BY), and the Rife Beam Ray device, a gas-filled ray tube that he proposed would eliminate these viruses by exposing them to electromagnetic waves oscillating at specific frequencies that he called the Mortal Oscillatory Rates.
