Project Magnet (1950-1954) was a Canadian Department of Transport program, initiated and managed by Wilbert Smith, dedicated to the "study of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and the physical principles connected to them," and specifically interested in "the concepts of geomagnetism, and the belief that it may be possible to use and manipulate the Earth's magnetic field as a propulsion method for vehicles."[1]
