Aqualandia was a self-declared kingdom, claiming sovereignty over the territory under the oceans of the planet Earth. The kingdom was founded by Kirby J. Hensley, with citizenship in the nation offered for sale to any paying customer willing to cough up $35. It was almost certainly inspired by, and one might propose a usurpation of, Barnett and Austin's Kingdom of Aqualandia, a project that was the object of sporadic press attention during the 1960s.
- The Lutheran Standard 26: 72, 1986, "Dr. Kirby J. Hensley, bishop of the Universal Life Church. Modesto, Calif., was scheduled to be crowned April 11 as King of Aqualandia, a country — formed in the 1950s — that claimed the ocean floor as its land mass, according to a news release from the church's international headquarters in Modesto."
