James Shelby Downard, Jr. (March 13, 1913 - March 16, 1998) was an American conspiracy theorist, particularly notable for his assertion that the assassination of United States President John F. Kennedy was a Masonic ritual sacrifice, the "Killing of the King." [Alternately, Downard may not have existed at all, and is simply a pseudonym used by authors working at Feral House Publishing.]
