James Patrick "Paddy" Nolan (May 3, 1873 - November 18, 1947) was a prospector and treasure hunter, noted for his expeditions to Plum Island in Shad Bay, Nova Scotia, where he sought the gold of Captain Edward Swede, a seventeenth century pirate, using two aluminum rods as his gold-finder. Nolan was the subject of Harold T. Wilkins' 1948 book A Modern Treasure Hunter (London: C.& J. Temple).
