Illuminati

The Illuminati (Latin: illuminatus, "enlightened") may refer to any number of arcane societies, religious orders, and deep conspiracies, both existent or purely fictional, including:

• The Alumbrados (Illuminati), a sixteenth-century Spanish Christian religious order, ultimately suppressed;
• The Bavarian Illuminati, an eighteenth-century secret society, founded by Adam Weishaupt;
• The Order of the Illuminati, a nineteenth-century schismatic Mormon (Strangite) fraternal society;
• The Illuminati or the Order of Light, predecessor to the Sublime and Ill-Illuminated Order of Tacks.
