Dr. Gori (Spectreman)

Dr. Gori (Japanese: ゴリ博士?, Gori Hakase), also referred to as Space Apeman Gori (宇宙猿人ゴリ, Uchû Enjin Gori), is an ape-like alien being and the main antagonist in the Japanese tokusatsu series Spectreman. Gori is portrayed in the show as a mad scientist and former political leader of the Planet E, a world populated by intelligent ape-like beings that is situated some 40,000 light years from Earth. He had been driven from power over a plot to overthrow the government and install himself as a dictator, through which means he would exploit Eian power in order to bring about the subjugation of other planets using terrible weapons of his own design. His plans for Planet E being foiled, Gori was sentenced to have his mind altered to remove his desire for conquest; however, this psychic fate was avoided thanks to the efforts of his loyal aide Karas, who helped Gori to escape from the planet aboard a flying saucer (of the Adamski-type). The fugitive pair eventually came upon Earth in their travels through space, which Gori, seeing the utterly dismal state of affairs and rampant pollution under early 1970s human rule, vowed to conquer through the use of his superior intelligence and giant monsters.

Portrayals

Dr. Gori has the basic appearance of a lower-budget Dr. Zaius, the orangutan scientist from Planet of the Apes (1968), distinguished somewhat by his wearing of a pink suit and white gloves.

Spectreman (1971-72)

The character was physically portrayed by Takanobu Toya, with the voice dubbed by Kiyoshi Kobayashi (eps. 1-10, 19-29), Seizo Kato (eps. 11-18), and Ren Nishiyama (eps. 30-63).
