From Kook Science

Named for the river Saskatchewan, also known as Keiskatchewan, or, in the Cree, ᑭᓯᐢᑳᒋᐘᓂ ᓰᐱᐩ, Kisiskāciwani-sīpiy ("Swift Flowing River"), the Saskatchewan Provisional District was founded as part of a re-organisation of the North-West Territories in 1882, and, twenty-three years later, with the passage of the Saskatchewan Act in 1905, the District was brought into the Canadian Confederation as the Province of Saskatchewan.
