Puerto Rico, from the Spanish for "Rich Port", also known as Borinquén, from the Taíno, also formerly known as Porto Rico (from 1898-1931), and formally known at present as Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico and Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, being a territory encompassing the whole of a Caribbean island situated in the northeast Caribbean Sea, some thousand miles southeast of Miami, Florida.
