Ailuromancy (from the Greek: αίλουρος, aílouros ["cat"] + μαντεία, manteia ["divination, soothsaying"]) is a proposed method of divination conducted by observation of the movements of a cat. Unlike other methods of theriomancy, however, such cat-watching has not been demonstrated to have been conducted historically, and the term itself is likely a wordplay invention originating in the early twentieth century.
