Ethereum (cryptocurrency)

(Redirected from Ethereum)
Ethereum is a peer-to-peer distributed public ledger (blockchain) and software platform that hosts a variety of cryptocurrencies, including Ether (ETH, Ξ), Ethereum's original and primary digital scrip that exists in the form of cryptographically-signed transactions on the ledger. The basic protocols for Ethereum were originally devised in 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, an early adopter of Bitcoin, and have since expanded and changed, moving away in 2022 from the Bitcoin proof-of-work (PoW) method of maintaining ledger consensus to proof-of-stake (PoS), i.e. replacing a lottery method with a validator method whereby holders of a minimum quantity of Ether tokens approve transactions.
Aside from scrip exchange, Ethereum is the main blockchain through which most popular non-fungible token (NFT)s are stored and traded.
