Qi (Mandarin: 氣, 气; chi, ch'i; "breath") is a Chinese conception of life energy, supposed to be a force that is present in all living beings. It may be subdivided into yīn qì (陰氣) and yáng qì (陽氣), as in the yin and yang (polarities); and further divided into: jīng qì (精氣); qīng qì (清氣); yuán qì (原氣); zōng qì (宗氣); yíng qì (營氣); wèi qì (衛氣); and zhèngqì (正氣).
