John W. Burns (June 16, 1888 - July 14, 1962) was a Canadian school teacher and Indian Agent, responsible for coining the term "Sasquatch" (anglicisation of the Halkomelem Salish "sásq’ets"), a product of his research into the legends of the local Salish tribes during his tenure at the Chehalis Reserve.
